FINAL DESIGN

PAPER WIREFRAMES

Before opening any design tool, I sketched the core flows on paper โ€” exploring navigation structure, information hierarchy, and how credential details would be surfaced across mobile and web contexts.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES

After validating structure on paper, I built grayscale lo-fi screens โ€” viewing a saved credential and creating a new one โ€” starting on mobile, then mirroring the layout on web.

Animal Adoption Center

A digital adoption platform redesigned so finding a pet, getting care, and staying connected feels welcoming, not like paperwork.

ROLE

UX/UI Designer

BACKGROUND

Animals in shelters. No one allowed in.

Shelters were forced to reduce the number of animals in their care because staffing shrank and safety rules tightened but with no visitors allowed, there was no way to move animals out.

Adoptions paused and foster placements were arranged over the phone. The staves and volunteers were trying to coordinate care, share updates, paused services on vet offices and sick family member, all through text and phone calls.

I started designing a platform to get animals out of overwhelmed shelters into caring hands, and non-emergency cases to be looked at professionally by video visit.

USER FLOWS

USER RESEARCH

USABILITY TESTING

  • Observed firsthand foster parents, dog/cat cafes how overcrowding, staff shortages, and a visitor ban were straining the center.

  • Surveyed potential adopters and foster families to understand what would make remote adoption feel trustworthy and safe

  • Designed flows for no-contact adoption, remote foster coordination, virtual vet care, and volunteer tools

RESEARCH

What does adoption look like when no one can visit?

"If the shelter only opens one day a week, how does anyone adopt?"

"What do cat cafes and dog hotels need to continue to foster and what's stopping them?"

"How does someone get a non-emergency vet consult when every clinic is closed or overrun?"

๐Ÿพ ADOPTION

No way to do it

People I talked to wanted to adopt but didn't know where to start. The shelter's unavailable, no website, tight scheduling, no explanations, no application, no clear next step to take.

๐Ÿฉบ VET CARE

Non-emergency cases had nowhere to get help

One foster had been calling different clinics for weeks about the same issue. Vets aren't accepting new clients, no refills, no quick visits.

๐Ÿค COMMUNITY

People care for animals

People needed to see a vet without leaving home, connect with fosters and care centers, consider adopting.

The community just had no place to come together.

โ˜• FOSTER CAFE

Willing but hesitant

She showed me the clipboard they used for every visit and enquiry. "People don't want to go through all of that just to sit with a cat โ€” especially when it already feels risky to be out."

๐Ÿ• DOG CARE

Fosters felt unsupported

"If a client comes back from a trip sick, that's on me. Every dog here, my whole staff."
They wanted to help, but taking on fosters felt like a risk.

๐Ÿ  SHELTERS

Capacity was the crisis

I called ahead three times. No answer. When I arrived, one person was handling the week's single open day.

DESIGN DIRECTION

Decisions that shaped the design.

SEARCH

The profile had to replace the physical visit

No visits meant the profile had to replace first documentation stage (introduction of the animal) such as personality, quirks, temperament, volunteer notes, etc.

FOSTER

Fosters drive adoption through the community

Fosters share what they see every day โ€” moments, personality, progress. That content lives in the community feed and finds a permanent home without any extra step.

VET CARE

Virtual vet had to be a real feature, not a link

During lockdown, "call your vet" meant nothing. People needed a real place to go, not "we don't accept new patience", "we're booked 3 months out". just quick refill and non-emergency care.

COMMUNITY

One place for everyone

Foster parents, local vets, individual rehomers, volunteers, anyone can post, connect, and find support. Vet features sit alongside adoption listings so care and community happen in the same space.
