Fleet Management

Optimizing real-time fleet operations for clarity and scale.

BACKGROUND

Making fleet operations easier to manage at scale.

Making fleet operations easier to manage at scale.

The legacy system displayed dense operational data, but users needed a clearer way to understand what required action.

Fleet managers were overseeing multiple regions, groups of fleets and vehicle management such as alerts, and OTA updates at once, but the interface treated every user the same. This made it harder to filter information, prioritize issues, and respond quickly.

The goal was to redesign key workflows so users could move from scattered fleet data to clearer operational decisions.

DESIGN

Key Improvments.

Key Improvments.

🔎

Fleet Filtering

Let users segment fleets and view only the vehicles relevant to their task.

🎯

Faster Issue Detection

urgent alerts and statuses so teams can respond quickly.

🧩

Scalable Structure

Create a system that can grow with more fleets, vehicles, and future features.

🚨

Prioritized Alerts

Group and rank alerts so users know what needs attention first.

🔄

Reliable OTA Feedback

Show update progress, success, failure, and retry states clearly.

👥

Clear Role-Based Views

Tailor dashboards and actions for managers, operators, and drivers.

TESTING & CHANGES

What changed after testing.

What changed after testing.

Retry and refresh icons looked too similar, they were redesigned with distinct shapes and clearer hover hints.

Operators lacked key information at a glance, note fields and vehicle eligibility visibility were added.

Filters reset when users switched fleets, persistent dashboard filters were introduced.

Drivers were confused by technical alerts, non-critical system data was removed from the driver interface.

OTA success and failure were hard to track, status tags and a retry system were added.

ICONS

Retry and refresh actions

Retry&refresh actions

Fixed: Similar icons were separated into clearer action states.

FILTERS

Saved dashboard views

Fixed: Filters now stay active when users switch between fleets.

OTA STATUS

Update result labels

Fixed: Success, failure, pending, and retry states are now visible.

MY ROLE

Designing the Fleet experience from flow to interface.

USABILITY TESTING

  • My role focused on improving feature usability within an existing product architecture.

  • I identified user pain points through workflow review, interface analysis, and feedback from fleet-related use cases.

  • Created feasible design solutions for filtering, alerts, OTA updates, and vehicle-level information while maintaining a consistent design library system.

  • Clarifying role-based task flows so managers, operators, and drivers could each see the information most relevant to their responsibilities.

RESEARCH

Understanding the friction.

Understanding the friction.

“I can’t track if an OTA update failed unless someone calls me.”

“I manage five fleets. I just need to see what’s wrong, with who, right now.”

“My drivers don’t need to see software issues. They just want to go.”

“Switching filters resets everything. It wastes time every day.”
