PRODUCT DESIGN
BACKGROUND

Turning shared expenses into a clearer product experience.

Turning shared expenses into a clearer product experience.

Receipt Wrangler was built for people who regularly split expenses — roommates, friends, travelers, and freelancers. The product had strong utility, but the experience needed to become more approachable for everyday use.

When I joined, there was no interface making the product approachable for everyday users. I designed the first public interface in 2021 then led a full redesign across both platforms.

DESIGN PILLARS

Problems to solve.

📱

Mobile-first Workflows

Designed receipt workflows around quick capture, review, and assignment on smaller screens

Reduced friction across upload, split, and tracking flows so users could move from receipt to resolution faster

📐

Scalable IA

Reorganized the product structure so new features could be added without breaking navigation

🧩

Consistent system

Created reusable patterns for filters, inputs, indicators, receipt states, and responsive layouts

👥

Group clarity

Clarified who paid, who owes, why they owe it, and what still needs attention

TESTING & CHANGES

What changed after testing.

What changed after testing.

Dashboard felt organized — testers missed widget hierarchy cues.

Receipt upload worked — Quick Add & Quick Split needed more prominence.

AI itemization saved time — users expected confirmation per edit.

Filters improved — icon-only labels slowed recognition.
